Welcome! We're Glad you are here
Whether you’ve attended church all your life and are looking for a new home or this is an entirely new experience to you, we invite you to experience Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church. We welcome those who come to worship with us from other Christian backgrounds and those who are interested in seeking more knowledge about the Christian faith, but are uncertain of their place in the journey.
Below you will find information and links to help you get to know a little bit about us. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
Every Sunday, we have three services and would love for you to join us for one of them.
Classic Service | Sunday 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. | Sanctuary
We have two services in the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings, at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Both of these services offer friendly faces, a lively blend of music ranging from hymns to current praise music, thoughtful liturgy, and a sermon.
Café Service | Sunday at 9:45 a.m. | Chapel
Serving up an alternative to our traditional service, the Café Service has a relaxed feel, with contemporary music. Coffee and snacks are available, as well. Kids are welcome to play in the back of the Chapel and before heading out to Sunday School. Come as you are and invite your friends!
Our address is 2128 Chatsworth Blvd., San Diego, CA 92107
If you are going to a service in the Sanctuary, you will easily see the doors to from Chatsworth Blvd. If you are looking for the Café Service in the Chapel, you’ll want to go around the corner onto Udall Street, where you’ll see the entrance to the Chapel.
For all of the Services, you can find parking on the street or in the parking lot across the street, which is attached to the Point Loma Library.
What to Expect
Checking out a church for the first time can be intimidating. So here are few things you can expect when you visit Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church:
- a sacred space to come together despite our individual differences
- scripture-based messages that are relevant to your daily life
- a comfortable atmosphere
- friendly people who’ll help you find your way around
- amazing children’s and student ministries
- many small groups where you can connect with each new friends and your faith
In both the Classic Service and the Café Service, worship lasts about an hour, and the same message is preached in all of our services.
In the Classic Sanctuary Services, you will find an inspiring blend of music ranging from hymns to current praise music, readings from the Bible, thoughtful liturgy, and a sermon. The music includes a choir, organ, and piano, as well as special appearances from our English Handbell Ensemble and occasional visits from members from the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. You’ll find people dressed both dressy and casual, so please come as you are and however you feel comfortable. Be ready for a 20-minute sermon, wonderful music, and worship based in Scripture. Each week we provide a bulletin, as well as the Pointing Ahead insert, which lists the week’s events at the church.
In the Café Service, you will find a more relaxed feel and contemporary music that often includes a band with a guitar, keyboard and drums. You’ll also find a lively sermon and occasional group engagement (but don’t worry—no one will call on you). There is also a mini food and drink bar where you can grab coffee, juice, or a muffin.
Whether you are going to the Sanctuary or the Café Service, we have a great children’s experience available every Sunday. Our nursery is led by our trained and loving staff who provide Sunday morning care for infants and toddlers through age three. Sunday School is for ages 4 years through the completion of 6th grade. Dedicated volunteer teachers share their faith walk with the children and encourage them to personalize and apply what they are learning through Bible stories, active games, songs, crafts, and prayer.
Check Your Child Into Sunday School Before Service
Prior to Sunday School, stop by one of the three child check-in stations (Sanctuary, Chapel and Nursery entrances) to get a personalized name tag for you child. Proceed to the worship service where your child will be dismissed and escorted to their respective classroom. After service, bring your Guardian receipt to your child's classroom for pick-up.
All week long we have many ways to get involved and connect. We invite you to explore our children's programs, youth programs, adult programs, senior programs, and Bible studies. We also invite you to explore the many ways you can SERVE the church and our community. Through these small groups, you will find many opportunities to grow in Christ and engage more fully in His world.
