Say Hello!

Music ministry

Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church maintains a long-standing tradition of musical excellence. Under the leadership of our Director of Worship and Music, Alicia McMillan, the music program is vibrant and active, with ministries for children through adults.

SUNDAY MUSIC

On Sunday worship services, you will find that music is an integral part of worship. After all, Martin Luther once referred to music as a precious gift bestowed on people alone to remind them that they are created to praise and magnify the Lord.

At our Classic Service in the Sanctuary, you will enjoy traditional hymns performed by our own organist Alicia McMillan, pianist Bryan Verhoye, and the New Covenant Choir. The Worship Band also performs twice a month with Bryan, Alicia, and the New Covenant Choir to play contemporary hymn arrangements. Some Sundays, Ringers ReJOYce! and/or  the children's and youth choirs also perform.

At the Online Worship Service premiering every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. available here on our website and via YouTube, worship is a combination of traditional hymns and contemporary worship music, featuring the best of both the Classic service and Cafe worship.

At the Café Worship Service in the Chapel on Sundays at 10:30 am, the Café Worship Band plays inspiring, contemporary songs from some of today's top Christian artists. The worship team is led by RO Smith and consists of a dedicated team of musicians on rotation, which changes from week to week.

NEW COVENANT CHOIR

The New Covenant Choir performs at the 9:00 am service each Sunday. We also pre-record hymns and special music for our online service. For Easter and Christmas programs, our music ministry is accompanied by members of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the choir has extended its music ministry with nine tours to European countries! For more information, contact Alicia McMillan,

RINGERS ReJOYce!

Founded May 1974, the Ringers ReJOYce! English Handbell Ensemble has performed at various venues throughout the San Diego area. Most often, they participate to enhance the Sunday morning worship services and other events at the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, all to the glory of God. They have 5 octaves of Schulmerich hand bells and 3 octaves of hand chimes. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings. For more information or to get involved, contact Ann Simoneau,

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Join us each year for our annual grand Christmas Concert for the Community. This spectacular event brings together the New Covenant Choir and our Children's and Youth Choirs, who are joined by members of the San Diego Symphony. Featuring our own organist Alicia McMillan, pianist Bryan Verhoye, and select solo performances, the evening is filled with favorite carols and orchestral works. The Ringers ReJOYce! English Handbell Ensemble also join in the merriment, directed by Ann Simoneau.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR

We have Music and Arts based classes for children ages 4 - 6th grade. For more information, please visit our Children's Ministry page.

A choir ministry, because of its Kingdom-building commitment, is set apart from dance, sports, art and gymnastics. It is not just another activity option in the long list of activities available to children. Children who learn to use their singing voice at an early age grow up equipped to participate in worship through music. Children who are securely rooted in God’s Word have the best possible anchor to secure them in the midst of life’s raging storms and murky waters.
