UPLIFT (Urban People Living in Faith and Trust) has been a mission partner of Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church since 1987. Through your faithful giving, we help make it possible for UPLIFT to continue its free Kids at Heart tutoring program—bringing academic support and hope to children in underserved communities across San Diego.
Kids at Heart tutors provide one-on-one academic help and mentorship to students who would otherwise have no access to outside educational support. Many of these students are English language learners or come from families experiencing poverty—groups that faced significant setbacks during the pandemic. Thanks to the steady encouragement of volunteer tutors, children not only build academic skills, but also gain confidence and emotional support in a caring environment.
The impact is deep and lasting. One former student shared that her time in the program gave her motivation during a difficult season of her life. With her tutor's encouragement, she persevered through challenges, completed college, and now works as a counselor helping youth.
